Verb Encyclopedia

Click on the verbs below to see their conjugation charts. You will find easy-to-conjugate regular verbs as well as irregular verbs that do not conform to the usual patterns.

видеть (to see)
возить (to cart, to carry)
говорить (to talk, speak)
готовить (to prepare, make ready)
давать (to give)
жить (to live)
закрывать (to close)
лететь (to fly)
носить (to carry, to wear)

   посещать (to visit)
работать (to work)
сидеть (to sit)
спать (to sleep)
чувствовать (to feel)

There are two patterns that regular verbs follow depending on conjugation. They are presented by the words работать (1st conjugation) and говорить (2nd conjugation).

Irregular verbs, however, are fairly consistent in Russian. They usually have a stem or consonantal change or lose syllables and acquire new endings. Here are the main representatives of such groups: жить (stem change), давать (syllable loss), любить, готовить, видеть, возить, спать, носить, лететь, посетить (consonantal change).

The verbs are provided with the most common definitions only. Keep in mind that many of the verbs can also have other meanings. Keep in mind, also, that some verbs can not be used in passive voice but have reflexive counterparts with different usage or meaning. For example, the verb спать is not used in passive voice but has a reflexive counterpart "спаться" used in impersonal sentences only.

This encyclopedia is work in progress. You are welcome to ask for a conjugation chart of your Russian verb and we will try to add it shortly.
